My First Blog

 Welcome to Kenia's Corner!

As someone who is unfamiliar with blogs, I am a little concerned about how well this is going to be. If you happen to be reading this, please feel free to leave some words of encouragement. 

For this first blog post, I wanted to share my ideas regarding the concept of Web 2.0. I think that Web 2.0 changed the internet dramatically and shaped it into what we all now conceive as the online world. In this week's reading, I was interested in learning about the history of the web and how the different versions are different from the excerpt of Dr Dennen's upcoming book. The beginning of the internet was so exciting, and it grew even more over the last couple of decades to have such an abundant resource of information. The plethora of resources we have now is thanks to Web 2.0, where we can share information while also consuming it. 

Despite the web developing into a big resource, I consider all this information's negative side effects. It sometimes feels overstimulating because so many ideas are being shared, and some contradict others. Due to the nature of the current web, it is easy to be misled with information, so it now we have to be more cautious as to what we accept.

    Hi Kenia! I am just here to share some words of encouragement. :) I also feel a little apprehensive about writing a blog. I don't love sharing my thoughts and feelings and I certainly don't love putting them out there for strangers! However, I think this class will be one of growth for me, and that is always a good thing. I am also interested in learning more this semester about the benefits and challenges of Web 2.0. I tend to have a negative perspective on social media, but I am looking forward to learning more about it this semester!

      Hi Lotta! Thanks for stopping by, and I appreciate your encouragement. I do hope you get to see some of the positives in sharing more online, but I do understand some of the concerns for privacy.

      LOL, thanks for the encouragement. Now that you mention it, I also need to learn how to embed memes here. That would also mean I need to familiarize myself with how to properly site them.

    I think a lot of us are new to blogging, so we're in this together! I'm a little intimidated by the web in general. As you said, it's a big resource with a lot of different information. It can be difficult to sort through information, and it is easy to fall into a hive mindset without considering all of the facts. I'm looking forward to being more comfortable and competent with the internet and how I can contribute in an effective way.

For the blog this week, the first article that caught my attention is "Open Educational Resources : Enabling universal education." In the article, it was my first time learning about OpenCourseWares (OCWs), which are online resources that provide access to educational materials from courses in universities (Cite here). Week 6 Post 3: To Future Me

 Out of the tools listed this week, I was very surprised to learn about a tool where you can write a letter to your future self. With this 6th week, I have had several challenges and have felt like I needed a lot of encouragement. So it was nice to explore this tool, and even seeing that I could send money to my future self was such a cool feature. I ended up writing myself an encouraging letter that talked about what I have done, my goals, my hopes, and my aspirations. I wished my future self well and told her that no matter what she has going on in the future, she will succeed.  Writing that letter made me emotional and reminded me that I must be my biggest fan. With everything going on in life, there are times when things feel tough, and we can feel a lack of motivation. When I lack motivation, I think it is helpful to take a step back to reflect on the past challenges and how they have passed. Times like these are temporary, and without challenges, we stay stagnant. Week 5, Post 2: Tools Exploration

 In my exploration of tools this week, I got to learn about a few new ones that I have never used or heard of. the most interesting one to me this week was MERLOT, which is a collection of online learning resources. A tool like this should have been more common and shared in general but this is my very first time learning about this. I did some searches to find out what ways this tool could be benefecial for learning uses.
