Reading about the networked creator was a relatable topic for me as someone who enjoys creating various content and posting them online. It is interesting to learn how the idea of content creation has evolved overtime and seeing how now it more common from the general population. This is mainly due to the growth in social media and the influence that comes with having a big following.
Because of the widespread audience that can be reached online, we are now able to connect with a broader audience in sharing our content. I have watched many big influencers today grow from smaller followings to major ones. An example of this was visible through YouTube videos where people do not need to be professionals to record and share their content. Some of the biggest influencers had a YouTube channel that grew from not many to now thousands and even millions of subscribers.
As confirmed in the chapter about networked individualism, networked creators thrive because of their self-expression, collaboration, and other ways of connecting with the community they create. Having networked creators has done well for our society because we get content that is not overly structured and comes from everyday people most of the time. As one of those aspiring creators, I now understand more of the values in doing so and try to only share things that have no negative connotation in the public eye.
